[Hero5] Heroes Unite - Slots [4/6]

Postby danconnor on Mon May 10, 2010 11:24 am

All,

As announced during Meetup, I have decided to run a Superheroes game. I will be likely be using Hero 5th edition rules depending on if I get a hold of the 6th Editions rules for Hero Games before then. There are six slots available with one possibly already taken. I will be running the game once a month and most likely on a Sunday. This will depend on everyones schedule a little bit. I am flexible, but my preference is for a Sunday. You don't need to know the games system. I am very versed in it and I am happy to teach it. All you need is an idea on character concept and willingness to have fun. It is a four color campaign meaning it isn't dark like Dark Knight in Batman. It is much more like Smallville and SuperFriends if you were alive that far back. I do live in Yass, but I don't expect to run the game there every-time or at all if it is a real problem for folks. So if you have an alternate venue that would be a plus, but I do have a work option if need be.

So about the world,

After September 11th attack on the Twin Towers by Super Villain Group JET, it was decided something had to be done about super villains. Most of the major cities started formed their own groups and a few of the major nations had their own teams as well. In Australia a group formed in Melbourne and there was an attempt to form one in Sydney, but it fizzled out due to lack of threats and interest. After much debating in Parliament and incidents like the Black Saturday Fire started by super villain Heat Wave and the Cronulla riots started by super gangs, it was decided to start a national Super Hero team called Australian United Super Saviors Institute Encompassing our Shores (AUSSIES). They would be Federally funded out of Defense funding and be stationed in Canberra.

Add states as follows

We are looking for the best that Australian Super Heroes has to offer. Citizenship is not required, but preferred. Must be an Australian Resident however. Be part of the something greater. Come to Canberra Stadium at 11AM on (date to be determined by our first game) and show us your Powers. Be the Hero that Australia needs!

Eeeee, I want to play. Sunday can be good for me. I can even offer my house as venue.

Concept ideas;

- Richardo Alpert, Chronomancer.
- Benjamin Law, Recycler. (matter absorption/conversion)
-- james, your snarky fairly sinister semi-disorganiser [of dubious quality]

PLEASE do not send me direct messages, use e-mail instead, or simply comment on the appropriate thread.

I've been craving something like this for ages. I'm saturated in D&D atm.

Count me in if there is space. I have access to the books but have never played it so I'll do some reading tonight.

Excellent on the Chronomancer and your house as a possible venue EOLH.

I am looking at 450 points if we use 5th ed rules and I might have to go higher with 6th ed if used. I will keep the third Sunday out of the equation then Franklin.

So to confirm at 450 points were's talking about 'Champions'esque characters right? So flying dudes with laser eyes and stuff?

Yes that is correct. Though I find they build Champion characters without much thought or change over the years. I think it has to do with the fact that the game designers kept it very simplistic. Though to be fair to them I haven't seen their latest incarnations. Please run all ideas by me first before you start a character and if you are going to try and copy a current SuperHero just remember certain characters are easier to do then others. Trying to do a Superman like character for 450 points is almost impossible. However doing Smallville Clark Kent is much easier.

Just my two cents, Dan: if 5th edition works for you and you are happy with it, I wouldn't bother switching to 6th edition for the sake of a change. It would take you time to get across it, plus noone else is really familiar with the Hero system, so there's no reason to get 6th edition to attract new players.
Games I run: Werewolf: the Forsaken [Solar System], BSG: All Along The Watchtower [HQ2], Aberrant: Teen Tomorrow [WT]
Games I ran/played: Mouse Guard Limited Series [Mouse Guard],

Thanks for the advice Narayan. I am fairly certain I will stick with 5th edition rules. I was only thinking 6th edition to encourage me to buy the new books. They are very shiny. :)

Yeah, they are very shiny. You could buy them, but then you'll be compelled to use them. Perhaps you could run your game with 5th edition and check out 6th edition in the meantime to see if you could be bothered converting?

I note that Amazon US has a good deal going here.

That is only the Basic Rules. What you really need are the hardbound Hero System 6 Volume I and Volume II.

Hero Games has an online store where they are currently bundling both books with PDFs for $80 US. I just don't know if they ship to Australia or not. They also have a bundle without the PDFs for 69.99. With current exchange rates it makes it tempting. I suspect the shipping cost could be a lot more though. Mind games had only Volume II when I went in there about a week ago.

A once a month game sounds sweet. Though I am shift working 80 hour weeks give or take 5 hours. I look to be doing this till June/July.... (I hope) If there is room for another I'd be keen. I have no books, or experience with this system... happy to learn.

Also have car, can travel. Happy to drop or collect people from Belconnen labour club, to Yass and return them there. I reside north side (McKellar)..

80 hours a week!!! That sounds insane. At this point there is definitely room. My question is what happens after July does it go to a normal schedule or is this a contract and you will have other things to do or not do?

I hope to be only doing 80 hour weeks till say the 15th of July 2010 (construction pending). I then hope to move to a 4 shifts on, and 4 shifts off roster. (though Sunday is my big money day).

The renters are moving into an unfinished building, and there is a need for extra bodies, until the building becomes more complete.
