lunchtime games at/near work

Does anyone do this? Of course you would need the right kind of game, that would work with sessions of an hour or so.
Anyone work at Belconnen? :)

Holy crap Karl! I was about to suggest something very similar but in Parkes (the Parliamentary Triangle). :)

Sadly, this does mean that I won't be able to go to Belco for gaming though! :(

I keep wondering about Race for the Galaxy over lunch...

I work at Uni of Canberra in Belconnen.

That's a pretty cool idea.

How much can you play in an hour, though?

BoardGameGeek is my friend. :) That sounds cool. I admit I was thinking about RPGs, but other kinds of games would work!

Did you have any RPGs in mind? Im not sure how much you get achieved in a RPG in less than an hour.

How about MouseGuard?

I think regardless of game the main thing is to be very focused! Frequency and consistency would be important, to make up for the lack of length. And minimal time spent looking up rules, either because there are few of them or because they are well-known to all the players.

I reckon Contenders (and derivatives) could work pretty well.

Contenders could be good!

I am keen for RFTG though. Who can I "persuade" into it...

Hey, I'm also in Belconnen. In fact, I think I share Karl's passion in protecting our borders...

I would also be available at lunchtime, perhaps once a week?

I'd be happy with Spirit of the Century or Contenders. Or a non-collectible card game like Race for the Galaxy. Or just a general chat about gaming, really.

I don't think Mouse Guard would work too well, as a you'd only have time for a few tests and maybe a quick conflict. Perhaps you could make it more strategic, alternating one hour for the GM's Turn and one hour for the Player's Turn? I tend to think that MG is much better in the standard 3-4 hour block, though.

BOOK ME UP!
Games I run: Werewolf: the Forsaken [Solar System], BSG: All Along The Watchtower [HQ2], Aberrant: Teen Tomorrow [WT]
Games I ran/played: Mouse Guard Limited Series [Mouse Guard],
Nephilim: Within the Great Mechanism [HQ2]
Settings I want to run one day: Old/New World of Darkness, Aeon Trinity, Adventure!, War Against the Chtorr, Star Wars... and more besides!

Rocking!

I think alternating GM Turn and Player Turn would be the way to go with Mouse Guard lunches. I think most anything would be better in a 3-4 hour block, but I'm keen to see just how good a game can be in an hour.

Also, Nine Worlds is now available for free:
http://storiesyouplay.com/nineworlds

This is one of my unplayed favourites, I'd love to play me some 9W whether lunchtime or no.

Setting is a riff on Greek mythology, it'd be awesome pulling in all kinds of ancient goddesses, myths and heroes. Each PC chooses whether they will support the Gods (in the struggle against the Titans), or rebel against them both.

Plus, some very cool story-oriented player-driven structures to the rules. And, you use cards not dice.
